Think you need to go far to find winter sun? Let us go ☀️

1. Tenerife

The Canary Islands are probably the closest spot to the UK to locate sunlight, and Tenerife is tantalizingly temperate. With an average high of around 20°C, you'll only have to pack a light jumper to wrap around your shoulders for evening dining on the patio -- beats pulling on a parka for a visit to the corner store.

2. Cape Verde

Its pristine sandy beaches are perfect for tanning on a burst of winter sunshine, but should you want to do more than sun-worshipping, there is always the option to try scuba diving, deep-sea fishing or windsurfing.

3. The Gambia

A world away from Europe but just a six-hour flight in the UK, The Gambia offers an exotic yet accessible winter getaway. Get an intoxicating introduction to West Africa with a visit to the capital Banjul, or soak up the rays on a palm-fringed golden sandy beach. Sounds good. We called the nation among the best value holiday destinations, partly thanks to its super-cheap hotels, which can cost only #15* per night.

4. Morocco

Chill on the beach against a background of snow-capped mountains or, even if that's not relaxing, actually treat yourself with a trip to some steamy spa-like hammam for some blissful pampering. Book your flight for Morocco with Delta Airlines Reservations and avail best offers on your flight booking.

5. Madeira

Together with its pleasant winter climate, sea-and-mountain scenery and the older colonial charm of its Funchal, Madeira is created for a low-key, relaxing winter vacation. For people who want a bit more activity, the island also offers water sports such as windsurfing and sailing.

6. Dubai

The year-round sun isn't a mirage in Dubai. If you can tear yourself away from the largest shopping malls in the world, have a trip into the desert by jeep and camel or soak up the sun and atmosphere in the more traditional Heritage Village.

7. Oman

Perhaps not an obvious destination, yet this Middle Eastern blend of desert, coastal scenery, Portuguese colonial influence, rocky mountains and other natural wonders create Oman an excellent selection for the more adventurous winter sunshine seeker - notably as ordinary temperatures remain comfortably in the 20s.

8. Gran Canaria

Lying less than 100 miles off the shore of north-west Africa, it is probably no surprise that winter on Gran Canaria is a pleasant affair come the wintertime. The sub-tropical south-east of this island boasts extensive white beaches which are especially inviting for sunning yourself and forgetting the straight rain home.

9. Egypt

Even though Egypt has more than its fair share of sights, if you would rather be sunned than stunned, visit the country's Red Sea resorts. Sharm-el-Sheik is an immensely popular year-round destination offering excellent scuba diving in addition to unlimited opportunities for getting a tan.

10. Doha

Sometimes hailed as the new Dubai', Doha -- the capital of Qatar -- is among the most up and coming cities in the Gulf. Stroll along the Corniche, a long seaside promenade that curves around Doha Bay with places to eat and attractive views.
